Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War

During a family Christmas visit to Wellington, we visited Te Papa, New Zealand’s national museum. There was a fantastic exhibition called Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War. This was one of the most moving exhibits I think I have seen in my life.

Working with Weta Workshops (of Lord of the Rings fame) they have created a series of exhibits that are 2.4 times life size and tell the story of the campaign through eight ordinary New Zealanders who found themselves caught up in extraordinary circumstances.

These staggering giant sculptures took a huge amount of time to create, in fact 24,000 hours and this can be seen in the incredible detail, that I have tried to capture in this series of images.

In total 2,779 Kiwis lost their lives on Gallipoli and countless others were scarred both mentally and physically.
